Steps To Receiving A Direct Loan

Continuing Borrowers at LBCC
  1. Complete a 2009-2010 FAFSA and a financial aid file.
  2. Enroll in at least 6 units of classes required for your educational objective.
  3. Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress with Long Beach City College and the Financial Aid Office
  4. Direct Loan deadlines are as follows:
    • May 5, 2010 Last day to submit a Direct Loan Request for 2009-2010
    • May 14, 2010 Last day to submit Promissory Note and/or Verification of Attendance.
  5. Complete a "Continuing Borrower Direct Loan Counseling Questionnaire."
  6. Complete the "LBCC Federal Direct Loan Application."
  7. Submit both the Direct Loan Application and Questionnaire to your campus Financial Aid Office.
  8. In approximately three weeks, you will receive three copies of personalized Promissory Notes. (If you received a Direct Loan at LBCC in the 2002-2003 Academic Year or later, you will not need to complete a new Promissory Note. Skip to Step 10 below.)
  9. Complete, sign, and return two copies of the Promissory Notes to your campus Financial Aid Office in person. (The third copy is for your records.)
  10. The first disbursement of your loan will be mailed in approximately four weeks.
  11. You must attend an Exit Counseling Session in person or online before a second disbursement will be ordered.
Please Note

Long Beach City College has a recommended loan limit of $12,500 including loans from other schools. To exceed that limit, you will need to submit a Loan Appeal Request Form.

The total debt you may have outstanding from all Stafford Loans combined is $31,000 as a dependent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans) and $57,500 as an independent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans). Exceeding these limits will result in your being ineligible for any student financial aid funds including grants.
