Steps To Receiving A Direct Loan
|
| Continuing Borrowers at LBCC |
- Complete a 2009-2010 FAFSA and a financial aid file.
- Enroll in at least 6 units of classes required for your educational objective.
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress with Long Beach City College and the Financial Aid Office
- Direct Loan deadlines are as follows:
- May 5, 2010 Last day to submit a Direct Loan Request for 2009-2010
- May 14, 2010 Last day to submit Promissory Note and/or Verification of Attendance.
- Complete a "Continuing Borrower Direct Loan Counseling Questionnaire."
- Complete the "LBCC Federal Direct Loan Application."
- Submit both the Direct Loan Application and Questionnaire to your campus Financial Aid Office.
- In approximately three weeks, you will receive three copies of personalized Promissory Notes. (If you received a Direct Loan at LBCC in the 2002-2003 Academic Year or later, you will not need to complete a new Promissory Note. Skip to Step 10 below.)
- Complete, sign, and return two copies of the Promissory Notes to your campus Financial Aid Office in person. (The third copy is for your records.)
- The first disbursement of your loan will be mailed in approximately four weeks.
- You must attend an Exit Counseling Session in person or online before a second disbursement will be ordered.

| Please Note:
Long Beach City College has a recommended loan limit of $12,500 including loans from other schools. To exceed that limit, you will need to submit a Loan Appeal Request Form.
The total debt you may have outstanding from all Stafford Loans combined is $31,000 as a dependent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans) and $57,500 as an independent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans). Exceeding these limits will result in your being ineligible for any student financial aid funds including grants. |
