Steps To Receiving A Direct Loan
|
| New Borrowers at LBCC |
- Complete a 2009-2010 FAFSA and a 2009-2010 financial aid file.
- Enroll in at least 6 units of classes required for your educational objective.
- Direct Loan deadlines are as follows:
- April 29, 2010 – Last Direct Loan Entrance Meeting for 2009-2010 at LAC
- May 4, 2010 – Last Direct Loan Entrance Meeting for 2009-2010 at PCC
- May 5, 2010 – Last Day to submit a Direct Loan request for 2009-2010
- Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress with Long Beach City College and the Financial Aid office.
- Read "Entrance Counseling Guide for Borrowers."
- Complete the "New Borrowers Direct Loan Questionnaire." (PLEASE NOTE: You will not be permitted to pick up this packet and immediately attend an entrance counseling workshop.)
- Attend a one-hour Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Workshop (see schedule below)
- Complete the "William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Application." (Distributed at the end of Entrance Workshop.)
- Submit the Direct Loan Application and Questionnaire to your campus Financial Aid Office.
- In approximately three weeks, you will receive three copies of your Promissory Note and a Verification of Attendance in the mail.
- Have all your instructors complete, sign, and date the Verification of Attendance. All instructors must indicate satisfactory attendance and grades for all classes in session before you can receive a loan.
- Complete, sign, and return two copies of your Promissory Note (the third copy is for your records) and the Verification of Attendance to the Financial Aid Office in person.
- The first disbursement of your loan will be mailed approximately three weeks after you return your Verification of Attendance and Promissory Notes.
- You must attend an Exit Counseling session in person or online before a second check will be ordered.

Please Note: Long Beach City College has a recommended loan limit of $12,500 including loans from other schools. To exceed that limit, you will need to submit a Loan Appeal Request Form.
The total debt you may have outstanding from all Stafford Loans combined is $31,000 as a dependent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans) and $57,500 as an independent undergraduate student ($23,000 of this amount may be in subsidized loans). Exceeding these limits will result in your being ineligible for any student financial aid funds including grants. |
