Tired of running to the mailbox to see if your financial aid check has arrived? Or maybe you’ve had a check lost in the mail and waited weeks for a replacement check. Maybe you’d just like something more convenient than a paper check. If so, we have great news for you. Beginning January 1, 2008 you can have your financial aid wired directly to your bank account and receive an email or text message telling you when it’s deposited in your account.
Higher One, LBCC’s new agent for disbursing financial aid, has mailed the LBCC Debit Card to all current financial aid students. It will be mailed to all new students on an ongoing basis. Use the card online to choose to have your financial aid wired to your existing bank account or have a pre-approved account set up for you to receive it. There are no minimum balance requirements for the account, called a One Account, and there are no monthly fees. Customary banking fees do apply. It can also be used as a checking account. You can choose to continue to receive your financial aid in a paper check but you must make a choice, called “activating the card”, no matter what choice you make. Financial aid can’t be delivered to you if you don’t make a choice.
The LBCC Debit Card can be used to purchase books online or in person at the LBCC Bookstore. Use it anywhere MasterCard is accepted but remember it’s a debit card, not a credit card. There will be Higher One ATM’s at both campuses for making withdrawals and “communication boxes” at Cashiers’ Offices for making deposits.
